Who's Who in Fifth Grade?
Welcome Back to the start of our 2009 school year! Since this will be your last year in elementary school, my goal is to make it engaging, memorable, and challenging to make sure that you will be ready for the Middle School!
The first task is for us to become better acquainted with one another.
"Who's Who in Fifth Grade"
What's special about the Fifth Grade Teachers?
Mrs. Sandra Harris
5th Grade Math Teacher
I have a daughter, Hannah (4) and two stepdaughters, Alison (19) & Molly (17) and have been married to my husband, Glenn, for 6 years. We have a golden retriever and a cat; which are both kept outside! I graduated from Radford University in 1996 and began my teaching career at PW Moore Elementary School in August of 1996 where I continued to teach self contained 5th grade classrooms for 3 years. In 1999, I transferred to JC Sawyer Elementary School and taught 5th grade (self-contained & departmentalized) for four more years. December, 2003, after my daughter Hannah came into the world, a part time position seemed best for my family, and in August of 2004, I moved to Central Elementary School in the role of a part time AIG Facilitator. For the 2005_2006 school year, I was the AIG Facilitator for PW Moore & Sheep Harney, and for the past two years, I have served Sheep Harney as the AIG Facilitator and the district as the Elementary EduTest administrator. I am currently working on completing my masters in instructional technology in the distance learning program at East Carolina University and will graduate in the Fall of 2009.
I am thankful to be a part of the Dolphin family again as well as the blessing of returning to a 5th grade classroom to teach math. Not to mention, we have a fabulous fifth grade team this year and have been planning some great field trips, fundraisers, and activities for our students to participate in during their "senior" year of elementary school.
This summer, I have enjoyed spending time with my daughter Hannah, working on my laptop, reading Francine Rivers novels, going to the YMCA, and spending some time at the Outer Banks. If you ask Hannah what her mommy did during the summer.....she would say...."worked on the computer".
Now you know a little about me, I look forward to getting to know all of you and working with you to make this a rewarding school year. This is your last year of elementary school so let's make it a memorable one. As fifth graders, you will be taking on even more responsibility and accountability in school than you have in previous years as you prepare for middle school. Many challenges lay ahead of us, but we will tackle them together and create a classroom community that will help all of us to be successful.
